Dr. Tomkins joined the department in 1986. He received his JD and Ph.D. in 1984 from Washington University. Dr. Tomkins teaches courses in law and psychology (both graduate and undergraduate) and in social psychology. His research interests include the use of scientific/expert evidence in legal contexts, psycholegal perspectives on discrimination (racism, sexism, and anti-semitism), risk assessments of future violent behaviors, and domestic and social violence (including child maltreatment, witnessing parental violence, woman battering, and sexual assault). Dr. Tomkins currently serves as Co-Editor of Behavioral Sciences and the Law and is a member of the editorial board of Law and Behavior.
